Type: Bug

Symptoms

Sometimes Content Studio displays a message indicating that Server.CreateObject failed in the file global.asp. When refreshing the page the call succeeds. Also, sometimes one can find a number of not deactivated objects in the Content Studio Server application in Component Services applet.

Cause

This error is likely due to a bug in the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) subsystem in Windows 2000. The file affected is rpcrt4.dll that is installed with hotfix Q331953 via Windows update. The affected file has the version 5.0.2195.6106. The error reveals itself when RPC clears credentials which haven't been used for some time.

Resolution

The bug is scheduled to Win2k SP4 and is already fixed for Win2003. If you experience this problem you can try to uninstall the hotfix Q331953 from Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Prior to SP4 you can obtain a hotfix that fixes this bug (Microsoft Q814119) from Teknikhuset.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed to Teknikhuset AB that this is a bug in Windows 2000 and that it will be fixed in SP4.
